Choose for your child first and the label second. For families along the ORR in Kollur, Tellapur, Kokapet and nearby, the practical questions decide most of it: how long the morning drive takes, how many children share a teacher, how much homework comes home, which languages are taught, and whether the school is honest about who it is for. Start with your child, not the school
Before you visit anywhere, write down three things: what your child is like, what you want school to give them, and what you want to protect at home, such as evenings, sport or a language. Bring that list to every tour. It stops a beautiful building from making the decision for you.
Drive the route at school time
The commute is the part of school your child lives with every day. A drive that takes 15 minutes on a Sunday can take 45 at 8 am on a weekday. Drive it once at the real time before you decide. Then ask about the bus: is it GPS-tracked, is there an attendant on every route, and how early is the first pick-up from your area?
Class size and attention
Ask for the maximum class size, not the average, and in the Early Years ask how many adults are in the room. Smaller classes are not just about attention in lessons. They are what makes it possible for every teacher to know every child by name.
Homework and evenings
Ask for the homework limit for your child's grade. Some schools set a lot, and some families want that. If you want evenings for play, reading, sport and family, choose a school whose limit says so in writing.
Languages and roots
Most families here want an English-medium school that still keeps their child close to home. Ask how Telugu is taught and for how many years, which other languages are offered, and how festivals and Indian stories show up in the school year. A school's answer tells you whether roots are part of the timetable or only part of the brochure.
Which curriculum?
Many schools near the ORR offer more than one board, and that suits some families well. Whatever a school offers, ask which curriculum your child's class actually follows day to day, how the teachers are trained for it, and whether you can read what will be taught each term. A school that publishes its curriculum is easier to judge.
Fees, and what is in them
Ask for the full written list for your child's grade: tuition, admission fee, transport, meals and activities. Ask what is optional, whether anything can be added during the year, and how long fees are fixed for. Compare the totals, not the headline tuition.
Ask who the school is not for
Every good school suits some families better than others. Ask each school directly who it is not right for. A clear, honest answer is one of the best signs you will get on a tour.
